The horse now has regular water piped into the small metal bowl in its shelter, so that is something. It is no longer hobbled and was, for a while,
allowed to roam the length and breadth of the compound. That freedom has now ended and he is confined to a small area surrounded by a fence
and electrified cord. DG no longer visits the compound....indeed, she has had nothing to do with it for almost a year. Her husband is now the keeper
of this disgraceful situation and has demonstrated a cruel streak, not dissimilar to that of his wife.
Although he visits almost every day, now, he still spends no time at all with or on the dogs. Sometimes he stays a few minutes....just long enough
to put out some feed for the horse. Other times he remains for two or three hours, often long after nightfall (when visibility is virtually nil!),
exercising the horse or continuing to expand his project with more building or land clearance. He has been seen punching the horse in the face,
often for no reason, and regularly lashes it with a thick rope if it won't do as he commands. He was also seen trying to make the horse eat the
polythene bag which contained the horse's feed, before hitting the horse with the bag and then rubbing him down with it!! Is that strange
behaviour or what? He often arrives at sunset so that his activities down there cannot be witnessed.
Since the visit by the authorities in July, there has been no attempt to clean out the dog pens and, although there are only 4 dogs there.......the
Weimaraner, the Boxer, the Pointer bitch and the small brown dog....the Weimaraner, who was in the same pen as the German Shepherd, has
contracted the same skin condition suffered by the GS and has scratched himself raw. His owner gives him, and the other dogs, no attention
whatsoever, even when he there for long periods with nothing to do. He often spends hours just wandering around the place, smoking and, almost
without fail, emptying his bladder, often inside the horse's shelter but in plain view. Is this a bonding thing? It could be that he does it to shock
or offend those watching him, unaware that, after witnessing years of abuse there, there is little left to shock!
He often brings watermelons which he throws down for the chickens and the horse, though he never brings anything for the dogs. They howl
pitifully when he arrives but he ignores them with a coldness that has come to epitomise that place. They howl and whine for hours after he has
left, though their pleas are becoming less persistent as they lose hope. We have no idea what has become of the dogs that were removed,
although we suspect that it won't be long before 'new stock' arrives and these people resume their cruel practices.
The translated transcript from the court hearing is available to anyone who wishes to read it. Just email dogcrueltyinspain@mac.com and it will be
emailed back to you. DG has lied on every point in her testament and it is hoped that the judge will see this, especially as DG has denied having
anything to do with events that are supported by clear photographic evidence.
Meanwhile, we await the judge's decision about whether this case will be treated as a serious crime or a minor one. Once we know more, an update
will be posted.
We still need funds to help with the solicitor's fees and would appreciate any donations, however small.
