Update for Spring 2009

Things have changed little since the last blog.  There are still between 7 and 9 dogs in the compound and they are still living in inhumane conditions.  The pens have not been cleaned out THIS YEAR!!!  Dog-Girl, herself, has not visited the place THIS YEAR!!!  Until last week, the water deposit, which supplies a regular drip-drip of water to these animals, had been empty since January.  Presumably, the owner was hoping the few, meagre drops of rain that fell would suffice in-between visits!  Her accomplice continues to visit when it suits him, sometimes weekly, sometimes fortnightly.  His total indifference to the dogs, while he is there, is baffling and prompts the eternal question.......Why DO they keep the dogs there at all?

There has been some activity down there in the last few days when he has been seen concreting upright wooden posts into the ground halfway up the compound, although the reason for this is unclear.  Last year he constructed a metal frame in a separate part of the compound which has never been used for anything obvious.

This man has also been attending the compound more frequently in the past ten days, and this may be because the denuncia has finally reached the courts.  The local vet, whose intervention and help with this situation has been fundamental in achieving a court hearing, was asked to attend court on May 5th.  We thought this may mean that the case was being heard and that an outcome was imminent.  However, she was informed that this visit was only to confirm that she intends to continue with the denuncia and to confirm the statement she has made.  Presumably Dog-Girl, also, was asked to do the same.

How things progress from here is anyone's guess.  Suggestions have been made as to the processes involved, but nothing is clear.  It is possible that, having had the denuncia confirmed, the judge now looks at the case in its entirety and makes a judgement.  As soon as we hear of any further developments, the information will be placed on this blog.

However, the fact that DG continues to make additions to the compound and has made no attempt to improve conditions for the remaining animals, means that she is intent on developing the place further and unconcerned about any punitive measures that the authorities may impose.

Let's hope that the photos and accounts of the dreadful events of 2007/8 will move even the hardest heart and result in this woman and her accomplice receiving a hefty fine and lifetime ban on keeping animals in the future.  Watch this space........ and thanks to everyone for their continued support.

At the start of a New Year (2009) we find Dog-Girl continuing to keep dogs in an unhealthy and inhumane manner.  There are, at the last count, seven dogs in this place, one rabbit, numerous chickens and a few cockerels.  Although the dogs now have water 'on tap', they are visited at irregular intervals, sometimes once a week, sometimes - especially when there is a fiesta - once a fortnight.  Food is provided on these occasions, usually but not always, and they have to make this last, never knowing when the next meal may be brought.  They continue to howl and whimper on a daily basis, often fighting amongst themselves and often displaying symptoms of boredom and distress.

Dog-Girl's accomplice, a man with no affection or regard for these animals, has been seen using chicks as a means of training his own dog to 'fetch and kill'.  Watching him throw these chicks around like a ball, for his dog to chase, shake to death and bring back to him, is distressing in the extreme.  Complaints to the Guardia achieve nothing as this kind of 'sport' is not considered to be illegal.

The result of the numerous 'denuncias' that have been posted against this woman remain unknown......the wheels of justice turn VERY slowly in Spain and waiting becomes a career among those hoping for an outcome to any enquiry!!

Further complaints (denuncias) are needed to keep this matter alive and kicking.  The addresses already given remain the best option.  The more people who know about this situation, the better our chance of changing the culture of animal abuse that is so rife in Spain.  We need more exposure!!

Help us to highlight this site by posting it to everyone you know.

Our resolve to help these animals remains strong and we welcome any support and thank you for it.
